Aral Sea Tour (2 days)
An adventurous trip to the Aral Sea provides a unique opportunity to discover the region with contrasting landscapes of the disappearing sea and the wonders of nature, as well as to witness how once 4th biggest lake in the world is turning into new AralKum desert due to human madness.
Route: Nukus – Mizdakhan – Kungrat – Aral Sea – Muynak – Nukus
Itinerary:
Day 1. Nukus - Mizdakhan - Sudochi Lake - Aral Sea.
Our off-road tour will start from Nukus airport according to your flight from Tashkent or your hotel in Nukus. You’ll be met by your local English-speaking guide and start the tour toward Sudochi Lake via Mizdakhan Necropolis and ruins of Gaur-Kala Fortress (IVc BC).
Arrival to Sudochy Lake, visit to ruins of old Light House, fishermen’s store house. Observation of the lake’s fauna, if you are lucky may see pink flamingo and other birds.
Lunch by the ruins of the fishermen’s store house.
Continue drive to the shores of the Aral Sea, via Kubla Ustyurt town with a visit to abandoned runway.
Arrival to the shores of Aral Sea and accommodation in yurts (4-6 pax)
Dinner.
Day 2. Aral Sea - Muynak - Nukus.
Breakfast.
Short hike to Kungancha Kala (XII c) and drive to Muynak through the bottom of the dried Aral Sea via Ustyurt Plateau canyons.
Arrival to Muynak and visit to the Museum of Local Lore and Ship Cemetery.
Lunch and local family house.
Transfer to Nukus and arrival.
Optional: Visit to the Savitskiy Museum of Art, 2nd best soviet avant-garde collections of the world after Saint-Petersburg Museum of avant-garde.
Best period to visit: From mid Spring till mid Autmn.
Clothing:
– trekking shoes, long sleaves shirt, sun hat, warm jacket, sunscreen, swimming suit, seasonal outfit.
