- North Annapurna Base Camp Trek (Maurice Herzog Trail)
## Trip Overview##
Step off the beaten path and be among the first to explore the North Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also known as the Maurice Herzog Trail, a newly opened and less-travelled route in the Annapurna region. Named after the first climber to summit Annapurna I in 1950, this journey takes you through remote valleys, alpine meadows, hidden waterfalls, and dramatic glaciers, culminating at the foot of the mighty Annapurna’s north face, rarely seen by trekkers.
Combining cultural exploration in Kathmandu and Pokhara with a rugged Himalayan adventure, this 14-day itinerary offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and true wilderness trekking. Ideal for adventurous trekkers seeking solitude, authenticity, and new horizons in Nepal’s iconic mountains.
##Detailed Itinerary##
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400 M / 4593 FT)
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our office representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in our company’s private car. The drive to the hotel usually takes 30 minutes or more, depending on the traffic conditions. He/she will also brief you about your trip either during the drive or once you've arrived at your hotel. After check-in, take a moment to relax and adjust to your new surroundings.
Overnight: 4-Star Hotel in Kathmandu
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing (1400 M / 4593.2 FT)
After a hearty breakfast, your day begins with a full immersion into the cultural richness of the Kathmandu Valley. Start with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll marvel at ancient palaces, courtyards, and temples, each with its own story.
Next, head to Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hilltop offering panoramic views of the city. This sacred site is both a temple and a stupa, revered by Buddhists and Hindus alike.
In the afternoon, visit Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Here, you’ll witness rituals and ceremonies that are integral to the local culture. Finally, visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the Largest stupas in Nepal, which is also one of the most sacred sites in Tibetan Buddhism.
Overnight: 4-Star Hotel in Kathmandu
Meals: Breakfast
Day 3: Drive or Fly to Pokhara (822 M / 2,697 FT)
On Day 3, you have two options to travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara: by road or by air. If you choose to drive, the journey covers approximately 200 to 205 kilometres via the Prithvi Highway and typically takes around 6 to 7 hours. However, depending on traffic and road conditions, it can take more than 7 hours. Tourist buses usually make 3 to 4 stops along the way for meals and breaks. The drive offers scenic views of rivers, hills, and rural landscapes, but can be tiring due to varying road conditions. Private vehicles, like cars or vans, are also available.
Alternatively, flying is a much faster option. The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara takes about 25 to 30 minutes, though with airport check-in and possible delays, you should allow roughly an hour in total. Domestic airlines such as Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, and Shree Airlines operate frequent flights, mainly in the morning and early afternoon. The departure is from the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport, and you’ll land at Pokhara’s airport, which is conveniently close to the popular Lakeside area.
If you're short on time or prefer convenience, flying is the most efficient option. However, if you enjoy road trips and scenic drives, travelling by land offers a more immersive experience of Nepal’s countryside.
